Why Tamil needs its own address
Tamil was the first language India declared a classical language, in 2004, with a written record going back over two thousand years. Its script is compact: 12 vowels, 18 consonants and one special letter, the āytam, combine into 216 compound characters, each written as a single glyph rather than a consonant plus a floating mark. That structure is what makes a Tamil address short and visually distinct. Tamil is official in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, and in Sri Lanka and Singapore, so a Tamil address is useful well beyond one state. Tamil has been one of the most requested languages on DataMail since launch.
Who uses it: Tamil Nadu institutions, Sri Lankan and Singaporean Tamil speakers, and anyone whose name loses its meaning when squeezed into Latin letters.
A real address, not a translated app

That's possible because of Email Address Internationalization (EAI), a technical standard that lets an email address use scripts beyond plain ASCII. How to create a free Tamil email address.
