Where Gmail wins
Ecosystem. If you live in Google Docs, Meet and Drive, Gmail is the natural centre of that. Its spam filtering is the industry benchmark and its search is very good. Nothing on this page argues otherwise.
Where DataMail wins
Your name in your script. A Gmail address for someone called प्रिया has to be priya, priya123 or priya.sharma.1997. On DataMail it can be प्रिया@डाटामेल.भारत, which is what she'd write on a form, a shop sign or a wedding card. That's not a display setting; it's the real, deliverable address, made possible by Email Address Internationalization, the standard DataMail's founder helped shape at ICANN. Read how that works.
Storage without a wall. Gmail's 15 GB is shared with Drive and Photos and fills up. DataMail's is ad-supported and unlimited, with no card on file and no upgrade prompt mid-year. The trade is explicit: you watch a short ad, you get more space.
Using both
Most people who try DataMail keep their Gmail. They use the DataMail address for family, local institutions, community groups and anything where a native-script name matters, and the English address for the rest. DataMail's webmail at mail.datamail.in works in any browser once the ID is created in the app.
Can I create a Gmail address in Hindi or another Indian language?
No. Gmail can send to and receive from internationalized addresses, but it won't let you create one. DataMail will. Start with Hindi, Tamil or any of the 16.
Does Gmail deliver to a DataMail native-script address?
Yes, and so does Outlook.com. Some older corporate mail servers still reject non-ASCII addresses; fewer than 10% of servers worldwide accept them, which is the number DataMail's founder has spent a decade at ICANN trying to change.
Is DataMail a replacement for Gmail?
For a native-language address, yes. For everything else, use whichever you prefer. They coexist happily.
Your script.
